Esteemed MUN directors, honorable delegates and future participants,
On behalf of the SEV JMUN Secretariat, we are looking forward to meeting you at the SEV Junior
Model United Nations Conference starting on February 23, 2018 in Izmir.
The Secretariat would like to put forward the horrible issues the world faces today from human
rights violations, security challenges and economic issues, to environmental problems. We
believe that you, the delegates, will do as best as you can to discuss solutions and form
resolutions that will put an end to these problems. We as the Secretariat worked together to
create an agenda which will explore global issues. With that, this year’s specific topic will be on
the “Potential in Diversity.” With special focus on its growing effects and how to understand it,
topics will range from both specific to general details. Certainly, diversity is increasing in the
world day by day. At times, causing disputes, it feeds on stigma and discrimination.
Discrimination, being one of the main problems that can occur due to diversity, can be a fertile
ground for security threats and the disregard of human rights. The lack of faith and trust in
politics has caused the potential in diversity to get underrated. Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary
General, suggests “The disregard for human rights is a disease, and it is a disease that is
spreading – North, South, East and West.”
It is in our hands to shape the future – this is the aspiration of Izmir SEVJMUN. We hope to
build skills and acquire knowledge to face what the future will bring. Model United Nations is an
amazing opportunity, and a real-life diplomatic simulation for young scholars to engage in
debate which reflect global realities. Once again, the SEVJMUN will be an environment where young
people from around the world come together in a multicultural setting and have a platform to strengthen
their public speaking and organizational skills in the process. The conference is an opportunity for students
to freely and openly express themselves whilst gaining valuable JMUN experience, together different schools
from around the world. It will also be a chance to discuss diverse agenda topics with other participants and
to establish new networking links and build relationships that last a lifetime.
On behalf of the Executive Team, We are ready to welcome you in Izmir SEVJMUN 2018 in
February!
Sincerely,
The Secretary General
